Penn Tavern Restaurant

SUNBURY Daily Item— It’s like a homecoming when John Derk, formerly of Sunbury, returns to a local venue like Penn’s Tavern.

Derk will be performing 6-8:30 p.m. Tuesday at Penn’s Tavern, 113 River Road, Route 147. This is Derk’s second performance.

Last summer he performed on the deck of the restaurant as part of his duo For Play with friend Carol Taylor.

This performance is a solo one for Derk, now of Leesport near Reading, who plays guitar and piano. He performs cover songs of Tom Petty, Billy Joel, Elton John and the Beatles.

Owner Liz Mertz said she is thrilled to have Derk return.

“John has a great tone and a great voice. He is musically and instrumentally gifted,”

During the winter months, Penn’s Tavern moves the Tuesdsay night concert series inside and has a smaller crowd. Therefore the venue keeps the entertainment to typically solo acts.

“What he does is perfect for our little river pub when we’re inside during the winter months,” Mertz said.

"For Pay" was amazing last night we will be getting them back again , Carols voice is insane and Front man John Derk knows what a real set list is all about. They covered everything from Miranda to Michael and everything in between. A big thanks to all who attended and as big big thank you to Sherri for suggesting yet another great band.

Thanks so much!  We appreciate your continued commitment to our MAW fund raiser.  Everyone tremendously enjoys your music and looks forward to dancing!  We are still working on the details of the evening, but the event goes from 6 to 10 and it will be very similar to last year.
